Gov. Ducey Signs HB 2493: A win for Arizona solar customers
  • Last week, Gov. Ducey signed HB 2493 into law, resolving an ongoing dispute related to valuation of solar equipment for property tax purposes in Arizona.
  • As a result of this new law, Arizona solar customers will save hundreds of dollars per year. Click here to learn more about this exciting news!
Arizona Corporation Commission Updates
  • At their Open Meeting earlier this week, Commissioners voted to open a new APS rate case and ordered the company to enhance customer education. The case could take more than a year to resolve, and comes in the wake of the Champion vs. APS complaint that challenged the justness and reasonableness of the company’s rates. APS must file a new rate case by Oct. 31, 2019. Click here to learn more.
  • Also at the Open Meeting, Commissioners discussed proposed rules for interconnection of distributed generation facilities, but decided to hold a vote until a later date to allow for more consideration. Click here to view the docket.
  • ICYMI: Since our last Arizona update, Andy Tobin has resigned from the ACC and been replaced by Lea Marquez Peterson (appointed by Gov. Ducey). Click here to learn more.

  • The 2019 Arizona Energy Future: Innovation, Technology & Economic Opportunity Conference has been rescheduled for October 8-10, 2019.

In Case You Missed It: SRP Updates – New rate plans, battery incentive, and solar installer program changes
  • SRP’s four new approved rate plans went into effect on May 1. If SRP customers are on an old rate plan, they can switch to one of the new plans, which include non-demand package options.
  • The utility’s new battery incentive also went into effect on May 1, which doubles the incentive to $300 per KWH, with a $3,600 cap. There are currently 3,789 battery incentive applications still available until the incentive caps out. Note that qualifying battery technology must contain lithium-based batteries. The utility company is also offering a $50 rebate to customers who buy electric vehicles.
  • Additionally, SRP will be rolling out big changes to their preferred solar installer program in July of this year. SRP is working with AriSEIA to roll out and manage the program! Click here to learn more about these important changes for residential solar electric contractors.
