Tucson and Pima County unanimously adopt new building energy conservation code

• Tucson’s City Council and the Pima County Board of Supervisors both unanimously adopted the 2018 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC). Pima County has a population of just over 1 million people. Tucson, with more than 500,000 residents, is Arizona’s second largest city.
• Tucson and Pima County now join Phoenix as the only three Arizona communities to have adopted the 2018 IECC. 
• The Tucson Council unanimously approved the new code on Oct. 9 and included Appendix T, which supports the development of solar-ready homes.
• Pima County’s Board of Supervisors also unanimously approved the new code on Oct. 16. As part of its vote, the Supervisors agreed to initiate a public hearing on the possible adoption of Appendix T. This hearing is tentatively scheduled for Wed., November 28th.
