NOV. 15 NEWS: NAVAJO GENERATING STATION (NGS)

 The Congressional Research Service concludes that the Central Arizona Project is not required to keep buying power from NGS post-2019

• In case you missed it, a new report by the Congressional Research Service (CRS) —  a legislative branch agency that provides analysis to Congress — concluded that the Central Arizona Project (CAP) is not required to keep buying power from NGS post-2019.
• According to the report, a 1969 agreement under which CAP would buy NGS power will expire at the end of 2019, after which CAP is free of any further obligation. Read more here.

Navajo Transitional Energy Company (NTEC) considers ownership of NGS

• As you may remember in September, two companies negotiating to take over NGS (New York-based Avenue Capital and Chicago-based Middle River Power) decided to drop their bid for the plant citing “recent developments” in Arizona and California. 
• In October, it was reported by Bloomberg Environment reporter Stephen Lee that Salt River Project had been approached by the Navajo Nation about potentially purchasing the plant.
• It was confirmed that NTEC is considering ownership of the plant. NTEC Chief Executive Clark Moseley said he expects to have a plan for the plant in place by the end of the year. Read more here.
